or “the saga of the fava beans

According to the Alphabetical Guide to Food and Traditions of Le Marche, the proverb la fava pe’ li Morti (broad beans for the dead) is a reminder that fava beans should be sown on the 2nd of November (All Soul’s Day). If the weather is poor on the 2nd, you should sow on the 7th, 17th, or 27th. There’s no mention of sowing later than the 27th of November because only deviants, crop meddlers, and ignorant foreigners would consider it.
